Which did allow me, or rather force me, to replay the levels so many times that I could clearly predict where each enemy would go, when they would stick their head up and where they would go next. The cover mechanic is extremely clunky, especially to unstick yourself in a hurry just didn't work and got me killed plenty of times. But I'll take a ridiculous story over no story anytime. I don't think that realism comes into play with either game - it's supposed to be an over the top, popcorn fuelled blockbuster roller coaster ride. K&L1 was a regretful purchase that I'd give a 4/10 and K&L2 was a good niche title that I'd give a 7.5/10 for people who like corridor shooters.ĭifferent people, different tastes I suppose. I had no problem with performance on a 7970 + 4670k. It's an extremely lazy console port as well that runs pretty slowly at best. I'd dread when they switched between military/swat back to gangsters because you'd eventually run out of rifle ammo. That made the early traffic jam scene probably the hardest point of the game. On the difficulty I played on, the SMGs were so fucking bad. I don't really understand that one either.
There are really only a handful of weapons and non make any difference really. There were a few scenes that were difficult to pass because the controls were so bad (where you're running through the apartments). The camera bobble was terrible (though can be disabled in settings). The second felt like a semi-realistic over-the-top battle through the streets of Shanghai.Ĭontrol wise, I understand the clunkiness. The first might have had more of a story, but it hopped all over the place (including into a civil war). But I found the cliche of the first to be worse than the second.
Story wise, yeah there is pretty much none. I thought the restaurant battles were pretty creative (especially the one where there are a lot of shuttered windows). I also loved the environments and level design. It's not a run and gun game at all - it's a cover shooter that forces you to push forward due to ammo shortages.

It felt like you were moving through an action movie that hopped from one crazy battle to another. I suggest K&L2 to fans of barebones first person shooters around here because I found the gun battles to be action-packed. I'd never recommend K&L 1, but if someone loves singleplayer shooters, K&L 2 is one of my favourites. Did you play on a higher or lower difficulty? Interesting, I had pretty much the exact opposite view of the K&L series. I would rate the original game 7/10 - including 1 point for being different and new. And don't even get me started on the ending. The level design is boring and everything looks the same.
Neither Kane nor Lynch have any defined character what so ever. This game doesn't come close to the first one. So I figured I would like this one at least the same or even better. Several review sites had given it slightly higher ratings than the first game. So in the recent Humble Bundle sale, I picked part 2 up for 2 bucks or so. Sure it had rough edges but it was new and refreshing and years before BF:Hardline. The idea of playing the bad guy, switching between Kane and Lynch, Lynch's psychotic episodes, the Heat-style police shootouts. I bought the original Kane and Lynch years back and despite getting bad reviews, I really had a great time with the original game.
